About Michael Wadzinski, MD

Dr. Michael Wadzinski, MD is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in the diseases and surgery of the vitreous and retina. With a career rooted in clinical excellence and research, Dr. Wadzinski has dedicated over two decades to providing expert retinal care to the Siouxland community through his practice at Pierce Street Same Day Surgery.

Education & Advanced Training

Dr. Wadzinski earned his medical degree with honors from the University of Nebraska. He was selected for the prestigious Sarnoff Research Fellowship at Harvard, where he conducted groundbreaking studies on growth factors critical to the development of retinal diseases such as macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy under the mentorship of Dr. Judah Folkman.
He completed his internship in internal medicine and a residency in ophthalmology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. During his time there, he was recognized as one of the top resident physicians by University Hospital and was awarded the Outstanding Resident Research Award. In his final year, he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Wadzinski further specialized by completing a competitive retina fellowship at the Devers Eye Institute in Portland, Oregon.

A native of Nebraska, Dr. Wadzinski has called Sioux City home for over 20 years. He is known for his compassionate approach and technical expertise in managing complex retinal conditions. Dr. Wadzinski is a proud member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, the Iowa Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Woodbury County Medical Society.
