Dr. Cunningham is a board-certified general surgeon with additional certifications in bariatric surgery and obesity medicine. His medical journey began in Ireland, where he attended medical school and worked as a house officer in Dublin for two years. He then pursued further training in the United States, completing his residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

To specialize in metabolic, bariatric, and benign foregut surgery, he undertook a fellowship at Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania. Additionally, he holds a Master of Public Health degree from Imperial College London.
